Is Wedding Insurance Really a Thing?

  2. Is Wedding Insurance Really a Thing?

So you’re tying the knot. The big day is fast approaching, and you couldn’t be more excited. There’s still so much to do: dress fittings, cake tasting, finalizing the menu, the list goes on. Are you going to have a DJ or a band? When will the reception end? How much champagne should you buy? But what about wedding insurance?

“Is it really necessary to buy insurance for everything?” you wonder. “Will I really need it for my big day?” Think about it this way: if this is meant to be one of the most important days of your life, shouldn’t you aim to protect yourself against things that could go wrong?

Picture this: The venue is set and the people are starting to arrive, but your officiant is nowhere to be found. You try calling, but no answer. You’re going to have to postpone the wedding. Or let’s say you’ve planned a beautiful outdoor wedding for the middle of June, but a freak storm comes out of nowhere, ruins your displays and your food and prevents half your guests from getting to you. Wedding insurance can help cover the cost of reorganizing. It also covers unforeseen circumstances such as sickness and injury.

It’s important to check that you have wedding liability insurance and wedding cancellation insurance. One protects you if something happens during the event that you may be liable for, and one protects you in the event that you may have to cancel your event. But be aware that wedding insurance doesn’t cover cancellations due to cold feet, inability to pay or a bit of light rain. Weatherwise, your policy will cover cases where weather has to be bad enough to prevent the event from going ahead.
