Can I include my picture in the newsletter?

Yes, you can. There is dedicated space for your picture. Alternatively, because the newsletter can be edited, you can include your picture anywhere you like.

Can I include my own graphics at the top of the newsletter?

Yes you can. As the entire newsletter (including the design) can be edited, you can add your own graphics. If you would like us to help with that - perhaps even create your own header for the newsletter - see this page on mastheads.

Can I email these newsletters?

If you wish to email your newsletter, we advise you to join the email service.

How can I customize my newsletter?

You can use Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher to cut and paste text into your newsletter quickly and easily.

How much of my newsletter can I customize?

As much or as little as you wish. You can change as many articles as you wish - even the title. Or you may just wish to add your business name and contact details. We recommend, however, that you include some information about your services to encourage clients to contact you.

Can I have my own header in the newsletter?

Yes, you can. We call it a masthead. You can either make on yourself or we can make it for you. Click here for more information.

Can I include listings in the newsletter?

You can replace as much of the newsletter as you like with listings or other information. Alternatively, members of the print newsletter service can can include listings information on a separate piece of paper - then you'll be able to change your listings information easily during the month as you sell houses!

Can I put the articles on my website?

Yes, you can. You can use the articles in any way you wish, as long as you don't resell them.

Can I include ads in my newsletter?

Yes. Because the entire newsletter can be edited and changed, you can insert ads wherever you like.

What should I do if I'm having trouble setting up or customizing my newsletter?

When I try to download the newsletter, it isn't appearing or it is coming up scrambled.

The first thing to do is make sure you are right-clicking on the link and choosing "save as" - then save it to your desktop. Open it from your desktop. (With some computer systems, it tries to open the newsletter within the web browser, causing problems.)

One other thing to make sure is that you are using Word to open the Word document and Publisher to open the Publisher document. If you try to use the other program, it will try to convert the document and will mess up the design.

Do I have to use a commercial printer to print my newsletter?

No, you can print the newsletter in your own office using your computer's printer. If you need help with this, please contact us.

Do I need to use an envelope with my newsletter?

No, we supply "self-mailer" editions, in 2 and 4-page sizes. These have a blank space for the address. You can fold and fasten these closed to send them without an envelope.

Can I print my newsletter on 11x17 paper?

Yes you can. You will need to adjust your printer settings for paper size and to make sure it prints the pages in the right order. As each printer is different, we cannot give you precise instructions here, but we advise you to choose "brochure" as the printing style, if that option appears. Contact us if you need help.

How much will it cost to mail my newsletter?

Mailing costs vary, depending on whether you choose first class mail or bulk mail. We advise you to contact your post office for the latest information.

What kind of paper do you advise?

The type of paper depends on where you are printing your newsletter and what kind of finished product you require. Newsletters can be printed on anything from regular laser printer paper to high-quality coated printer.

If you are printing in your office, experiment with different papers to see which looks best.

If you are using a commercial printer, ask him or her to send you paper samples.

Can I convert the print newsletter into a PDF file?

Yes, you can. If you don't have PDF conversion software on your computer, you can use www.zamzar.com to convert the document for free.

I can't save my work

I'm confused - how do I access my email newsletters?

When we've set up your account in Vertical Response, we will send you an email. This is done within one business day.

Can I send the emails using my own email sending software?

Our email service is designed in partnership with Vertical Response - the leaders in email marketing. You cannot therefore send these emails using your own email software.

It is much better to use Vertical Response than your own software because:

  • Vertical Response works closely with ISPs to give your email the best chance of being delivered.
  • Vertical Response ensures you comply with anti-SPAM regulations by making it easy for people to unsubscribe.
  • Vertical Response allows you to monitor the effectiveness of your email campaigns by allowing you to see bounce rate, open rate and the number of people who click on the links in your newsletter.

When I try to customize my newsletter, the layout gets messed up.

When you are editing your newsletter in the Vertical Response website, be careful not to delete any of the graphical elements. If you do something that messes up the layout, hit Control-Z to undo. If that doesn't work, call us at 1-877-976-6368 for help. Don't suffer in silence - most of these issues can be easily fixed.

When I paste articles into my newsletter they look terrible.

Because email newsletters rely on HTML code (web code) to work, there can sometimes be complications when pasting code into them.

If you having difficulty pasting articles from Word, for example, into your newsletter, try the following:

  • Instead of pasting directly from Word to your newsletter, paste it first into Notepad, and then copy and paste into the newsletter. If you do this, you will remove all the excess code that Word puts into files.
  • If you are having trouble creating normal-sized paragraph breaks in your newsletter, click Shift-Return (instead of just Return) to create the break.
  • If you are finding that pasting changes the font size and format, try pasting WITHIN a sentence and then deleting the excess words and letters.

Yes, you can. Each email has a "view on website" option. When you have sent a newsletter, look at the bottom of it and you will see the link. Open that link. The page that appears is the page you need to link to you your website.

How do I upload my list of contacts into the system?

In the Vertical Response partner site, click on Lists. You will be given the option of adding each contact manually or or uploading a list of contacts. The best format for uploading your contacts is in an Excel file or a comma separated (CSV) file.

What happens when emails bounce or someone unsubscribes?

When this happens, the system automatically suppresses the email addresses. It will not try to send them again. They will remain in your list so that you can see who they are.

Can people easily unsubscribe from my emails?

Yes, the system is compliant with anti-spam laws. People can click on a link at the foot of the email to unsubscribe.
